🎥 Reel Experiments: Testing What Resonates
To better understand what type of video content would capture the attention of Saudi football fans, we tested several Reel formats. Below are three of the most notable styles we created:
Voiceover Storytelling Reel
We used an AI-generated voiceover to narrate the career of Luka Modrić, blending realistic footage and emotional storytelling. The goal was to tap into fans’ admiration for iconic players and build a deeper connection through story.
Entertaining Visual Highlight Reel
A short-form, fast-paced visual showcasing the career highlights of Zinédine Zidane. We edited it to flow through his major moments across the years, leaning into nostalgia and iconic gameplay footage.
Saudi Pro League Salary Breakdown Reel
A reel built around a trending topic: how much international stars like Cristiano Ronaldo are earning in the Saudi League. This format leaned on local relevance and curiosity-driven statistics.
Before producing these formats, we carefully studied high-performing content across similar pages to ensure these ideas had proven viral potential. However, despite their quality and intent, these Reels underperformed with our specific audience.
📊 Key Insight: Reels Underperformed — Until We Hit the Right Format
Surprisingly, carousels and single images outperformed reels during initial testing.
Rather than abandoning reels, we iterated — focusing on Saudi-centric content (clubs, cups, players).
Discovered that local football-related statistics generated the highest engagement.
